Helpful Tips for Thanksgiving Travel

Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving?! Are you going to be traveling to see family and friends to celebrate? If you are, keep in mind that this year, the worst day and time to travel will be 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Waze. The best time to leave though is at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday. (Yikes! That’s early!)

If you are going to be one of the masses who are hitting the road to get to your Thanksgiving destination, you should absolutely make sure that not only are you all packed and ready to go, but your car is also ready to go. Here are our tips to make sure you are prepared for Thanksgiving travel.

Tire should be properly inflated. Under-inflated tires can cause unnecessary wear which can then potentially lead to failure or malfunctions. Also important to keep in mind is that under-inflated tires equal poor gas mileage.

Headlights should work correctly. There’s nothing worse than getting on the road at night and realizing that you really can’t see. Add in the winter storm you may encounter and you have a recipe for disaster. Making sure that your headlights are in proper working order to give you optimal visibility. If you’re currently driving around with one headlight, replace the burnt out one and if your lights are cloudy, make sure you clean them. Doing those two things can improve safety and maneuverability.

Spark plugs should be good. Make sure your spark plugs are not soiled or corroded so it improves your vehicle safety, fuel economy, and in the long run, replacing them can help to avoid potential costly auto repairs in the future.

Make sure your gas tank is full. While you may just want to get on the road, it is actually important to have a full fuel tank prior to leaving for your trip. When fuel levels drop to below a half of a tank, gas will evaporate quicker and actually cause you to have to purchase more fuel in the long run. Oh and by the way, when you’re constantly worried about how much fuel you have left, looking at your dash continually, your concentration on the road is heavily diminished.

Make sure you get an oil change. Routine auto repairs such as oil changes and filter replacements can help improve safety and drivability.

Now is the time to make sure that your car is maintained, so if you are hitting the road and need work done, we at Jaguar Land Rover Porsche Volvo of Greenville are more than happy to take care of you. Schedule your appointment today.
